Introducing our new ECCC PM

I am pleased to introduce the BLBRA’s new ECCC project manager, Colette Mesher.  Sincere thanks to the hiring committee for their efforts in filling this position.

Colette has provided a short bio.

“Hi my name is Colette Mesher and I am excited to be taking on the role of project manager for the BLBRA. My background is in aquatic biology but I pretty much love all animals and being outdoors. I grew up on the South shore of Montreal with 3 siblings. I moved to Ontario to do my undergraduate degree from the University of Guelph, but I wanted international experience, so I moved to South Africa to complete my masters at Rhodes University. I then moved to the U.K. where I obtained my PhD from the University of Plymouth. After many years of focusing on aquatic invertebrates like mysids, amphipods and freshwater mussels, I switched my expertise to honey bees and spent 10 years working and learning about these insects. I am still a hobby beekeeper, having recently moved my business from Ontario to Cape Breton in the summer of 2023. Although I have travelled a lot, my family is from Cape Breton so it feels like a homecoming to be building my farm in Catalone. My partner and I have a maine coon cat (Fox), a young corgi (Archie) and 2 horses (Freya and Gambit) which we will hopefully be able to move to the farm early next year.”

Colette started with the BLBRA this month and has been spending time getting set up on the Google Drive and manager email (manager@blbra.ca) as well as doing background research to prepare for the position. Her current focus is on the ECCC project and continuing to get familiarized with the BLBRA.

Pjila’si – Bienvenue – Failte – Welcome Colette!

Regards,

Allison McIsaac – BLBRA Chair
