Introducing Veronika Brzeski – CEAL Facilitator

The Community Engagement and Learning (CEAL) Committee, chaired by Kirsty Locke, is excited to announce that Veronika Brzeski has been hired as the new Facilitator to deliver a variety of opportunities to increase community engagement and learning.
Veronika will focus on three priorities:

Establishing long-term water monitoring sites.
Engage and work with volunteer citizen scientists. Kits containing all the materials for measuring temperature, salinity, acidity, alkalinity, nitrates, nitrites, and oxygen levels, are ready to be distributed to any interested individuals or groups. Training on how to use the kits and support in the start-up phase of monthly monitoring will be provided.
Organizing Bras d’Or Watch events.
Engage and organize in collaboration with community volunteers
Events happening this Spring and Summer around the Bras d’Or Lake will have some new activities added where participants will have the opportunity to use seine nets for collecting plankton and microscopes will be set up for observation.

Facilitating teaching sessions.
Arrange teaching sessions with schools and community groups while using the specialized teaching kits. The Facilitator, and other committee members, are available to bring engaging activities to schools and community groups in the area. These activities can be adapted for all age groups, and aside from school visits, they could be tailored for community groups such as Girl Guides or Scouts, 4-H, summer camps, seniors groups etc.
If you have any ideas or questions related to science and the Biosphere, then Veronika is very excited to hear from you. Please connect with her at veronika@blbra.ca or call 902-294-0648
