Bras d’Or Watch 2017-2018


Overview and current plans:

Last year Bras d’Or Watch Field Day was on July 22, 2017.  The primary purposes of this field day was to engage, connect and inform citizens throughout the Bras d’Or Lake Biosphere. It was staged to occur simultaneously at three sites around the Bras d’Or shoreline. Citizens of all ages and levels of experience were encouraged to participate between 10:00 and 2:00. Co-ordination of the field day was in partnership with ACAP-CB.  The date for this year is July 14, 2018

The sites are: Whycocomagh, Ben Eoin RV Park, Ross Ferry Marine Park, St. Peters.

The experience:

The goal for Bras d’Or Watch Field Day is to inform citizens about aspects of the unique ecology of the Bras d’Or Lakes and provide them with some target subjects (ie: alien species and common birds).   Bras d’Or Watch field day activities have been designed to appeal to all ages, all levels. Identification sheets are being made up and will be distributed to all site coordinators.  Kits holding necessary equipment, safety vests for volunteers and a sign for the road was also be provided.
