The Bras d’Or Lake Biosphere Reserve Association had a weekend of celebrations on

September 17th and 18th, 2011

We celebrated Canada’s 16th Biosphere Reserve – The Bras d’Or Lake and its Watershed!

  • CORE EVENT – Saturday afternoon at the Highland Village in Iona – 2 – 5 p.m. FREE ADMISSION
    • MC – Max MacDonald
    • Keynote Speaker – Silver Donald Cameron
    • Entertainment : Colin Grant Band, Les Zorvenants, Chief Leroy Denny, The Beaton Sisters Band, Cyril MacPhee and Darrell Keigan, Jeff MacDonald, Joanne MacIntyre, Gaelic singers, Mi’kmaq drummers, Kitpu singers, Mooney Francis, Vincent Joe, Acadian dancers
    • A multicultural ceremony of designation
    • Food of different cultures
    • Dignitaries: CCUNESCO, CBRA, Province of NS
    • Play – “In a Cultural Garden” by Whycocomagh Education Centre students
    • Art displays from Bras d’Or Stewardship/Biosphere contest
